The Phokera clean Water Pipeline Programme provides reliable access to safe water through engineered pipeline networks that improve health, reduce time spent collecting water, and support long-term community wellbeing.
Access to clean and reliable water remains a major challenge for many communities in Malawi’s Lower Shire Valley. Working with community development committees and local leaders, KCDT supported the design and construction of pipeline systems that bring safe water closer to homes, schools, healthcare facilities, and community centres. Identified and prioritised by communities themselves, these projects address genuine local needs and deliver lasting benefits.
The programme combines community leadership with Agricane’s engineering expertise to develop practical and sustainable water supply infrastructure. By extending pipeline networks and improving water access points, the projects help reduce waterborne disease risks, improve sanitation and hygiene, lessen the burden on women and children who often travel long distances to collect water, and create healthier and more productive communities.
