How we work: Governance

By the community, for the community

We are a registered not-for-profit trust, governed by a Board of Trustees that provides strategic oversight of our community development activities. The Board reviews financial and operational performance, and ensures world recognized governance practices.

Sugarcane production is managed in partnership with Kaombe Ranch, where technical, operational, and administrative support is provided by Agricane. Community priorities are identified through local development structures that work closely with us to plan, implement, and monitor projects that address local needs and deliver long-term benefits.

Operating through official structures

The Mbenje Area Development Committee (ADC) is the local government-recognized development coordination body that brings together traditional leaders, community representatives, government extension staff, and other stakeholders to identify and coordinate development priorities in the area.

We work officially through the Mbenje ADC and the dedicated KCDT Trust Committee to ensure development initiatives are identified, prioritized, and guided by local communities. This community-led approach helps align investments with both local needs and district development plans, ensuring projects deliver sustainable, long-term impact.

We offer funders up to USD $300,000 p.a. in matched funding

Mission

We aim to improve the quality of life in the Lower Shire Valley by investing in sustainable, community-led development initiatives that strengthen livelihoods, improve essential services, and build long-term resilience where it's needed most. We support projects that align with local and district development priorities, ensuring investments deliver meaningful, lasting benefits for the wider community.

All initiatives are carefully evaluated for their impact, sustainability, and alignment with the needs of our partner communities at the forefront of our decisions.
